November, and I believe that many of you are may be thinking the same thing that I am, “How fast the other ten months went by!”..
November is a quiet time of the year. It gives us the opportunity to take time to express our appreciation for all of our service men and women who sacrifice so much in their lives to keep us protected and give us the peace of mind of freedom. It is truly a gift to be able to slumber in our comfortable homes and beds with the peace of mind that we are protected.
November also gives us the opportunity to take time to be with family and friends and reflect on the many blessings that we have received in the past year. We have not gone hungry or lived with little worry on how to feed our families. We have been relatively comfortable and safe in our homes, enjoyed sports and other leisure activities. I could name so many more blessings but I will leave the rest to you.
Unfortunately, for many in our valley this past year has not been as prosperous as we have experienced. I wish to ask as you reflect on the many blessings of your life that you keep in mind those who do not have as much, and I ask you to consider, in thanksgiving for the abundance that you have received, donating to Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada who expect to serve 1,500 dinners in their dining room to our less fortunate brothers and sisters this Thanksgiving Day.
I wish each of you God’s continued abundant blessings and assure you of my prayers for you and your family.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Joseph A. Pepe, D.D., J.C.D.
Bishop of Las Vegas
