| A MAN WHO IS A MEMBER OF A RELIGIOUS ORDER, BUT IS NOT ORDAINED OR STUDYING FOR THE PRIESTHOOD.
God Calls to Religious Life
When we were baptized into the Church, we were given the equal dignity to be called God’s sons and daughters. Each of us, in our own unique way, also has received a “vocation” or call from God. God calls us to holiness and calls us to service – to continue the mission of Jesus Christ by preaching the Good News and building the Kingdom of God.
Each vocation or call from God can be lived out in various lifestyles: single, married, priest, brother, sister, or deacon. The lifestyle one chooses is the fundamental way a person decides to relate to God and other people. There are two ways to live as a vowed Viatorian. As a vowed Viatorian, a man can serve as a brother or a priest.
The Viatorians came to Nevada at the invitation of Bishop Robert J. Dwyer in 1954 to teach at Bishop Gorman High School. Over the past half century Viatorian brothers have ministered in Las Vegas at St. Viator Catholic Community, Bishop Gorman High School, and The Catholic Center (chancellery).
