Pastoral Priorities

Our local parishes are the center of faith and the Gospel mission within the Diocese of Las Vegas. It is throughour parish communities that we as a Church are able to

Text Box: reach out and grant everyone the opportunity to experience God in a personal way. Our priority through the parish based Service capital campaign is to help the diocese better serve the needs of the entire Catholic community.

This diocesan-wide effort will allow us to address our most immediate need which is to acquire land so that additional parishes can be developed in areas that are currently underserved or not served at all. In Southern Nevada today, the stress on many of our parishes is so great due to the overwhelming number of new and existing members that the sacramental ministry of our priests is stretched beyond limits.

Together with parish leadership throughout the valley, it was decided the best and most expedient way to ensure that the needs of all the members of the Catholic Church

in Southern Nevada are met, was to focus our efforts on areas that have the most urgent need for a new parish.

The areas that have been prioritized are:

Southern Highlands Area

West Summerlin

Cheyenne Hills

Boulder City

The Service campaign will also have a parish based component that will allow each individual parish to address their own existing needs to help foster the evangelization and lifelong formation and worship.

The diocese will also identify parishes with extraordinary needs that are not being fulfilled and set aside a portion of the total amount raised to meet those needs.

Each and every one of us is gifted by God and as disciples of Jesus Christ we are called upon to “receive God’s gifts with grateful hearts, cultivate those gifts responsibly, share them in loving justice with others, and to return them with increase to the Lord” (Stewardship: A Disciple’s Response).

As we seek to grow faith in our community, we ask that you prayerfully consider joining us on this journey of stewardship and faith by:

• Celebrating your faith

Participating in the mission of the Church on earth and educating your children to be active members of the Body of Christ.

• Supporting the pastoral needs of all members of your faith community

In order for us to be able to fulfill the ministry needs of the diocese and our parishes now and for future generations, we will need the dedication and support of all members of the Catholic community in Southern Nevada.
