Roman Catholic Marriage in Las Vegas

There is no "quickie" way for Catholics to be married in Las Vegas.  Catholic marriages (as a valid sacramental union) cannot be witnessed in a hotel, casino, wedding chapel or outdoor arena in Las Vegas.  Roman Catholics wishing to marry validly should be suspect of any so-called (roman) catholic priest offering such accommoda-tions.  For further information, please contact the Diocesan Tribunal Office, 702-735-1210, Monsignor Francis Vivona, S.T.M., J.C.L.

Please support Catholic Relief Services.
In 1943, Americans answered God's call, and Catholic Relief Services was born to ease the pain and suffering in a war torn world.  Over 60 years later, parts of our world still lie in ruins from war, floods, famine or other natural disasters all over the world.  Sadly, many poor people still struggle to survive without proper sanitation, running water, education, food and medical care.  You can make a donation of your choice online by clicking on the link above. Catholic Charities
Telephone Reassurance Program

The Telephone Reassurance Program serves individuals, age 60 and older, living alone and in need of a daily reassurance call.  If you or someone you know would like to receive a daily check-up from one of our callers please contact our office at 382-0721 - Monday – Thursday: 6:00am – 3:30pm and Friday: 7:30am – 11:30am

The daily contact decreases the level of isolation felt by the client and often results in a long lasting friendship between the client and caller. Telephone Reassurance enables seniors to continue living independently in the community with the assurance that assistance will be available should an accident or other medical emergency occur. Telephone Reassurance clients receive a daily “check-in” call from a designated volunteer.  If no contact is made, the volunteer then notifies the Telephone Reassurance Coordinator who initiates emergency procedures with assistance from local law enforcement and medical services as needed.

Catholic Charities has one focus: to give help and hope to people in need regardless of race, religion or creed.

Ubi Caritas….
God is Love and where true love is God himself is there.

As Catholics, our  involvement in charitable works is driven by the love God has for us. St. Paul writes that, “. . . the love of Christ impels us . . .” (2 Cor. 14). This love begs, even demands, to be shared with others, for it brings the presence of God to them. No single effort provides a better means by which to do that sharing than the annual Catholic Stewardship Appeal (CSA). Through CSA, significant programs and faith initiatives offer a loving invitation to live more fully in the love of Christ.

With your gift joining those of many others throughout the Diocese of Las Vegas we will insure that the resources and services provided annually in these important areas continue to be available in our community.

Thank you for your generous support of the 2009 Catholic Stewardship Appeal, and thanks, too, on behalf of so many who will benefit from your charitable concern and sacrifice.  It is truly an act of love, and where there is such love for others, the power of God who is love, is truly present and effective.  May God bless our efforts.

DIOCESE EMBARKS ON A CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

(A LETTER FROM BISHOP PEPE)

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ;

As many of you are aware, the constraints being placed on many of our existing parishes and its clergy by the continuously growing population combined with the growing cost of acquiring land, has made it necessary for the Diocese of Las Vegas to embark on a capital campaign.  This campaign will be entitled, Service: Growing Faith in Our Community and will be geared to raising money for the purpose of acquiring land in communities where there is a pressing need for a new parish.

PRAYER DURING TIME OF ECONOMIC CRISIS

Gracious God,
We know that your love is infinite and that you care about all areas of our life.
In this time of economic insecurity, help us to trust that all of our security is in you.
Keep us mindful that you always have and always will provide for our needs.
Apart from you we can do nothing.

Merciful God,
We ask that you give our leaders the wisdom to guide our nation and the world
out of the current economic crisis.
Help us to protect the poor and all those who are struggling during this difficult time.
Provide for their needs and give them hope.
Open new opportunities for them and furnish the resources they need to live with dignity.  Encourage those who have enough to share essential resources
with those who lack the necessities of life,
and to do so with humble, grateful and loving hearts.

We ask this through Christ, Our Lord.  Amen.
