NEW CAMPUS

On September 5th, 2007 Bishop Gorman High School opened its doors for the first time to students at its new campus on 5959 S. Hualapai. The Most Reverend Joseph A. Pepe, Bishop, and Dr. Richard Facciolo, Chancellor and Vicar for Education for the Diocese of Las Vegas, were on campus to welcome students to the new school.

The students were also greeted by dozens of staff members who distributed maps of the new large campus. While some parts of the campus are still under construction, the important things such as classrooms and academic facilities, are up and fully functional. As with everything that is new, their are always kinks to be worked out as we utilize all the wonderful features of our new campus.

BISHOP GORMAN HIGH SCHOOL HIRES PRESIDENT

The Diocese of Las Vegas announced that Dr. Richard A. Facciolo has accepted the position of President of Bishop Gorman High School. Dr. Facciolo has more than 20 years experience as an educator and administrator and most recently served as Chancellor and Vicar of Education for the Diocese of Las Vegas.

              “While we initially intended to conduct a nationwide search for potential candidates, it became apparent that what was really needed during this critical transition was a leader who has been a part of the vision the Diocese has for the school’s future and understands the role of Bishop Gorman as the flagship school within the community,” said Bishop Joseph A. Pepe.

              Dr. Facciolo has overseen the general operations of Bishop Gorman since the departure of the former Head of School in February. He was also heavily involved in the development of the school’s new Summerlin campus.

              “Having been so personally involved with the school and the development of the new campus, I feel that this will be a positive transition for me and the school and I look forward to serving the Bishop Gorman community during this exciting new chapter in our history,” Dr. Facciolo said.

              In addition to his new position at the school, Dr. Facciolo will also serve as Director of the newly formed Office of Resources and Strategic Planning for Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Las Vegas. In this capacity, he will offer counsel in the areas of strategic planning, accreditation, and program, teacher and curriculum development.

               Founded in 1954, Bishop Gorman High School is the only Catholic college preparatory school in Southern Nevada. In addition to its emphasis on Catholic values and service, Bishop Gorman also has a nationally ranked athletics program and offers 25 different co-curricular clubs and organizations. In 2007, Bishop Gorman moved to its new 36-acre Summerlin campus which houses a 5,500-square-foot alumni memorial chapel; state-of-the-art biology, chemistry and physics labs; learning centers; a college style lecture hall; a performing arts theatre; and five athletic fields, tennis courts and two gymnasiums.
