Catholic Boy Scout Mass
100 Years of Scouting 1910-2010
The 27th Annual Scout Mass, held on February 27, 2010 with Bishop Joseph Pepe celebrated both the enrichment of faith formation and 100 years of Boy Scouts in the United States of America.
Hundreds of Scouts, Scouters, family and friends gathered at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton to recognize Catholic Scouts who completed the National Catholic Committee on Scouting religious programs including the Light of Christ, Parvuli Dei and Ad Altare Dei. In attendance to celebrate the youth were Deacon Rev. Mr. Joe Deegan, SEAS, Dr. Mark Gonzalez, Diocesan Office of Faith and Ministry Formation, Phil Bevins, Las Vegas Area Council Scout Executive and Cameron Bomstad, LVAC Liasion to the DCCS.
The 2010 Mass recipients represented a large number of parishes in the Diocese of Las Vegas. Scouts who completed the Religious Emblems programs represented Christ the King, Holy Spirit, Our Lady of Las Vegas, St. Andrew, St. Anthony of Padua, St. John the Baptist, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Francis De Sales, St. John the Evangelist, St. John Neumann, SEAS, St. Joseph, HOM, St. Peter the Apostle, St. Thomas More and St. Viator.
Recipients at the mass also earned the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton patch which is part of the NCCS new Saints of the Catholic Church program. Information for the Saints and other activities may be found on the internet www.nccs-bsa.org or by contacting the diocesan CCS.
Families were offered photographs which were taken by Dave Haag providing memories of the day. Sales were under the direction of Isabel Lopes and Brenda Cotton. Historical CD’s and Group pictures are now available from the DCCS www.lasvegasccs.com for purchasing and information.
Leadership and planning for the event was provided by the Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting, Marie Simons, Chair and Fr. Tom Gallenbach, Chaplain and members of SEAS including Fr. Steve Hoffer, Christine Strate, Christine Beecher, Dee Dee Brundlle, Music Director, and Kristi Quinlan, Volunteer Coordinator, with DCCS Youth Hostess, Jessica Wattenbarger.
